Error code 0177 occurs when you have interest, dividends or capital gains in excess of $3100 and receive EIC. You need to file Form 4797 in order to claim EIC. The IRS has eliminated Form 8453-OL to be used instead of using the Self Select PIN option. If you receive this error, you must paper file your tax return for this year. The only allowable reason for entering less days is if the birth of the child (enter date of birth) or the death (enter the date of death) occurred during the tax year. In the case of a birth within the tax year, even if the child was just born in December, you will enter that the child lived with you for the entire year. If you must remove the child from the return, you will choose DELETE beside the affected child's name on the dependent summary screen. If you simply need to correct a date for time lived with you, you will choose EDIT beside the name of the affected child once you reach the dependent summary screen. You may then Save and Continue until you reach the dependent details information screen. You will need to remove the incorrect date and reenter a correct one. Once your entries are corrected, you will then save and continue through and resend your return. You will know when your return is submitted when you get to the Congratulations page. *Make sure you check back in 24-48 hours using the View Status and Forms link to check the status of your return.
