Ignacio Cardona is an architect, urbanist, and researcher specializing in restorative community design, ecosystemic democracy, and participatory planning. He holds a Doctor of Design from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and is an Associate Professor at the Wentworth Institute of Technology. He is the Director of the Spatial Opportunity Lab (SOLAB), where he leads transdisciplinary research on ecological restoration, community empowerment, and spatial justice across the Americas. Ignacio's work integrates design, political ecology, and emerging technologies to develop participatory methodologies for territorial transformation through projects with Indigenous communities, self-produced neighborhoods, and ecological planning initiatives. His research and practice have been supported by institutions including Harvard University, the Inter-American Development Bank, ECLAC, and the National Endowment for Democracy. Recently, Ignacio contributed to the launch of the Community Design and Research Center (CDRC) at Wentworth Institute of Technology, a platform that advances community empowerment through participatory design and engaged research.
